Before Justin Vernon became Bon Iver, the sad-eyed hope of the forlorn and triumphant, he was just a dude. Before the now-famous falsetto, before the now-legendary seclusion in the Wisconsin woods, before House and Grey’s Anatomy, before he became Superman, Justin was an ordinary man. Hazeltons was released in 2006, though “released” may be a stretch. Only 100 copies were made, packaged in thin paper sleeves and thrown to the music collecting wind.  The rest is now history. You’ll find some similarities, though not many in the way of style. It’s more traditional DIY folk, but the emotions are still there.  Consider it the semi-awkward high-school-photo moment on the way to fulfilling an incredible destiny.
