1. The Maccabees – Love You Better – The ’80s-mining experiment continues to reap rewards, borrowing booming reverb and trembly-serious vocals alongside their peers Arcade Fire and the National. [from Wall of Arms|buy]
whensaints2. When Saints Go Machine – Pick Up Your Tears and Run – Another one of my twitter imports (which I’ll be gradually doing more of). Beautiful and weird. Strangely alluring/hypnotizing. [from Ten Makes a Face|buy|myspace]
donovanwoods3. Donovan Woods – Car Won’t Start – I started my blogging “career” by writing about Woods, from the same album, and it’s fitting that I do the same here. He hasn’t done a lot since then, but the emotion on this particular album is timeless. Recorded in 2005, it has at least 5 absolutely killer tracks, and was finally released on iTunes worldwide this March. [from The Hold Up|buy|myspace]
Beerjacket4. Beerjacket – Belong In – A modern singer/songwriter gathering praise from lofty folk: “The new Elliott Smith” -Matt Berninger (The National), “F***ing Great” – Feist, “Great, sweet tunes.” – Jenny Lewis, “Easily among the head-and-shoulders-level artists on the bloated body of the solo acoustic genre.” – Me. [from A Boy of Action|buy]
