1. Soft – Droppin’ – I don’t know much about this band other than this song is really freakin’ good. Hi-hats are singing in the streets tonight. [from Gone Faded|buy]

2. Slaid Cleaves – This Morning I Am Born Again (Woody Guthrie) – There are few things dirtier, more desolate, more hallowed, than a properly executed bluegrass song. Woody Guthrie was the man and Cleaves brings out the best in it. [from Broke Down|buy]

3. Rogue Wave – Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) – Sue me, but I prefer this version to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. Karen O just doesn’t do it for me. That said, there’s no denying this poignancy of this song its the depths of longing. [Rogue Wave]

4. Pogo – Wishery – The title of this song is fitting. It seems conjured from the fantastical dreams of a child. Samples from Disney’s leading ladies of old (Alice in other songs, here it’s Snow White) provide the colorful paint, but Pogo provides the brush and finished masterpiece. Whimsy doesn’t even begin to cover it. Exhilarating. (The video is just as cool!) [more great tracks and other info at his website]
